London's Tube, as it is affectionately known,
is the oldest subway
system in the world, and one of the most extensive. South Kensington has beautiful open air platforms. It was "originally opened in December 1868, [and] is known as the gateway to the world famous London museum and culture district. Around 30 million people pass through annually and the number continues to rise as London passenger traffic grows" (quoting from the Tube's official web site). This picture was taken in 2002, before a planned redevelopment. |
